Meet the Team - John Watling
August 3rd, 2023
John's career in the funeral service spans an impressive 29 years, and has been a part of the Whitehouse Funeral Service team for the past 4 years. John likes that every work day is different and he loves to be able to support people during the most challenging times of their lives, which he finds truly rewarding. He is passionate about his job and believes it is the best job in the world.
Beyond his funeral service work, John is actively involved in various community initiatives related to supporting people with Dementia. He played a key role in establishing the Cockerton Dementia Cafe, which holds monthly meetings at Worsley Park. Additionally, he co-founded D.A.F.T (Darlington Activities Fundraising Team) that raises funds for individuals with Dementia. The team uses these funds to organise outings, taking people out of care homes and into the community. An example of this is the upcoming day trip to Seaton Carew, which will be funded by the group. John also utilises his expertise in creating power point presentations, focusing on memories of the past, particularly the 60s and 70s, to engage with individuals who have Dementia. Such presentations help them recall their past experiences, contributing to their well-being.
Outside of work and community involvement, John cherishes spending time with his family and enjoys playing golf with his friends.
His dedication to his job and his genuine care for others make him an asset to both his workplace and the community.
